H&S had a company office like the line companies, responsible for keeping Unit Diaries, Service Record Books.

My only recollection of HQ Company was a company clerk named Dave Elliot. He did a 13 month tour, re-upped, took a 30 day leave, then came back to the battalion. He went with a 1/1 rifle company as a grunt. I wasn't there, but I had to write the casualty report June 2, 1969. He was killed when he opened an ammo can in a recently abandoned camp they walked into. He had time to shout a warning before it blew, so he was the only one hit. He's at  Panel 23W, Line 43. He was a good guy. His choices affected some of my decisions later on.

I would like to build a list of H&S Company CO's. The only one I can remember is Capt. Trautwein, former CO of C 1/1.

Dear Friends,

I am sorry to say Al died today (02/12/2005) about 530 PM. It happened so fast. Last week he was reasonably well. Starting Monday he seemed to go down hill every day. We had Hospice here with a hospital bed, etc. Last night he  was struggling so to breath the Hospice RN stayed with us till 3AM. He settled down and was not restless or struggling so we thought he was OK. Wasn't.

It was a good day in that Lynn, John, Jenni, Gareth, Justin (my family),  Ginny (Al's sister from Cape Cod), Tom and Tony (Al's sons from Houston and New York) were all here with us all day. He couldn't respond, but we know he knew we were here. Then he just slipped away.

Thanks for all your prayers.  We know it was prayers that made this time  relatively easy and his passing so peaceful.

Al would say Semper Fi.

Love, Edie
